Alpacas are easy to care for, and they are tough, hardy animals. Compared to most livestock they eat very little, take considerably less room to raise and require less day to day work.
Many people, like me, find them irresistible. Alpacas are intelligent, beautiful animals. They make superb show animals, amiable pets, and wonderful tax deductions. They also make a terrific family project. We take ours along on outings, walks and hikes. They are an excellent addition to public relations efforts and can be taken to schools, institutions, and rest homes. They make excellent therapy animals. The list of possibilities goes on. There are few things I enjoy more than watching my crias (baby alpacas) run and play out in the field.
One of the best things about raising alpacas is that, if necessary, one person can manage a large group of the animals by themselves. The largest amount of work required is yearly shearing. It has been our experience that friends and neighbors are not only willing, but excited to come over and help out. With all the help, our shearing season goes by quickly, and after a bit of work and a lot fun, are animals are done and we visit other alpaca farms in the area to help with their shearing.
Alpacas are fairly easy to market. Soft, gentle, easy to manage, and generally very healthy, they are a great investment choice. There are many excellent tax benefits that go along with alpaca ownership. We have found that after a few years, our alpacas not only take care of themselves financially, but they help take care of us financially too.
The best way to find out if alpacas are for you is to come out to visit a farm and see for yourself. Our farm is always open to visitors, and will hold special events frequently throughout the year. We offer package deals to fit your situation and goals, and we always backup our clients with superlative support after the sale. No land for alpacas? No problem. We offer great boarding program too.
Send us your questions, write a letter, come and see us, or just pick up the phone and give us a call. Come join us and many others on the magical voyage of alpaca ownership.
